Financial Review
The Women’s Center relies on both public and private funds to supports its programs. Funding is acquired from state, county and city contracts, and private and public community sources. Government funding sources include the Federal Government, the State of California, San Joaquin County, and the Cities of Stockton, Tracy, Manteca and Lathrop. Private funds are acquired from foundations, businesses, corporations, United Way, employee giving campaigns, civic groups, individual donors, planned giving, fund-raising and third-party community events. Please see the most recent Annual Report (available in PDF format below) that lists all sources of income over $5,000 and provides a breakdown of income and expense information from the past year.
The agency’s Fund Development Department is committed to sustaining the annual operating budget through grant writing and other fundraising efforts. The Women's Center must raise over $400,000 annually through fundraising to sustain the agency’s program countywide. This amount accounts for approximately 20 percent of the annual operating budget. The agency meets it goal by hosting its annual luncheon each year in March, annual giving campaigns, an annual newsletter, direct mail appeals, and other special events. In addition, third-party fundraising events hosted by local businesses and organizations on behalf of the Women's Center have become a sizeable source of funding for the agency.
The Women’s Center works hard to be conscientious with the use of its funds and maintain low overhead costs. Currently, the agency operates with a yearly administrative cost of 10-12%. This means that for every dollar contributed to the Women’s Center, at least 88 cents is spent directly on services for our clients.
